LRC Clubs

Chess Club

The Chess Club meets in the LRC every Tuesday from 15:40 to 16:30. The club welcomes players of all ages and abilities. Chess sets are laid out for pupils to enjoy a game of chess before they go home. The LRC provides books to help new members understand the rules, and to give more advanced players helpful tips to improve their game play and strategy.

Library Club

The Library Club is for pupils who would like to work in the LRC. The Club meets on a Friday after school in the LRC and pupils from all years are welcome to join. Pupils undertake a variety of tasks and complete a portfolio of evidence to document their progress. Certificates are awarded at bronze, silver and gold level, and pupils receive a librarian badge. Pupils help to make the LRC a friendly and welcoming place by producing displays, writing book reviews and helping to chose new books for the LRC Manager to buy.

Reading Club

Reading Club takes place in the LRC every Thursday from 15:40 to 16:30pm. Reading Club is not just about reading books but offers competitions, quizzes and games based around books that pupils have read. In Advent Term, we have had a Roald Dahl Day Quiz, and entered a team for the 'Kid's Lit Quiz', an international reading quiz with the Northwest regional heats held at Bolton University. During the Trinity Term the club shadows the Carnegie Medal shortlist and submits reviews to the Carnegie website, as well as holding a party on the day that the winning book is announced.

Warhammer Club

Warhammer is a tabletop war game where two or more players compete against each other with "armies" of 20 mm - 50 mm heroic scale miniatures. Games are played on a tabletop decorated with model scenery in scale with the miniatures. There are different rules for movement, shooting, and combat, where action is dictated by the roll of a 6-sided die. The club meets on a Wednesday after school and welcomes players at all levels. Pupils are allowed to bring their own figures and scenery.
