Fairtrade
The Fair Trade group consists of a team of sixth formers, alongside Miss Hughes and Miss James, who work on promoting Fair Trade goods to the Edwardian community, through the sale of snacks at break times.
Via Traidcraft, we are able to offer our pupils an ethical alternative. As the UK's leading fair trade organisation, Traidcraft works with more than 100 producer groups in over 30 countries around the world, and through their work they aim to fight poverty through trade.
Alongside the benefits of promoting awareness of ethically traded goods, the group also gives the volunteers an opportunity to run a small business, by ordering stock and coming up with new ideas to market the product so that the best sales are achieved. This gives the pupils valuable experience which can be used in later life.
A particular highlight this year has been the raffling of a Fair Trade chocolate hamper. £150 was raised overall!
Within the next year, the Fair Trade group also aims to continue to raise the awareness of fairly traded goods with several information campaigns throughout the school year. This will be carried out through assemblies, poster campaigns and a number of other initiatives to be confirmed. Watch this space.
