Music

Brass Ensemble

Brass Ensemble is made up of brass players in Years 7-10. There are approximately 20 pupils in this group and they play a variety of music. They have taken part in performances at open evening and summer concerts.

Brass Tacks

The group is made up of brass players grade 5 and above and a kit drummer. They play music from the Baroque era right up to the present day. They have preformed at the Metropolitan Cathedral, St George’s Hall, The Town Hall and they are currently the school ensemble champions of the Crosby Festival of Music and Drama.

Chamber Choir

Chamber choir is the choir of Middle and Upper Schools and welcomes all voices from Years 10 - 13. This is the main school choir, having approximately 50 members. The Choir performs at concerts and services throughout the school year. As well as winning its classes at The Liverpool Festival of Performing Arts, Chamber Choir has sung at Everton Football Club, both cathedrals and under the Christmas tree in Williamson Square.

Chamber Orchestra

Chamber Orchestra is a high standard group and is aimed at orchestral players with grade 6 or above. It is a smaller orchestra and is often used to accompany soloists or small groups of singers in concerts.

College Consort

This is a high quality choir and membership is by audition as there are only 18 places. Each singer has to have a very good voice and excellent sight reading skills as the choir often has to learn music at short notice. Consort is the choir of choice for important occasions both in and out of school.

Concert Band

Concert Band is an ensemble of approximately 40 musicians consisting of woodwind, brass and percussion players. As well as standard repertoire, Concert Band also plays more light hearted music such as music for film and television. Concert Band is aimed at players who are Grade 5 and above.

Girls' Choir

Girls' Choir is aimed at students in Years 7 - 10. The choir usually has around 30-50 members and tends to focus on popular repertoire and musicals.

Gospel Choir

Gospel Choir is a fun choir and welcomes singers of any standard form Years 7 - 13. There is a very relaxed atmosphere during rehearsals and the music is lively. Gospel Choir also won its class at The Liverpool Festival of Performing Arts only months after the choir was formed.

Guitar Club 

Guitar Club meets on a Monday after school. It welcomes both electric and acoustic guitar players. Music is mainly modern with some popular classics like Beatles and Oasis. Players of all standards are welcome to join.

Keyboard Club

All pupils are welcome to keyboard club whether they are practising for an assessment set in music lessons or if they would just like to have fun on the keyboard. It is a drop in session and there are usually around 5 to 10 pupils per class.

Lower School Ensemble

This ensemble is for pupils in Years 7-9 and usually has 30 to 40 members of varying orchestral instruments. They rehearse once a week and have played music including ‘Penny Lane’, ‘Habanera’ from Carmen and the Pink Panther. They have performed at school concerts and at Founder’s Day at the Metropolitan Cathedral.

Lunchtime Recitals

As well as being an opportunity to come and listen to some of St. Edward's College's most talented performers, this is also an opportunity for pupils to practise their performance skills in a formal setting. All pupils and staff are invited to come and listen.

School Orchestra

School Orchestra is very popular amongst pupils. It is for pupils who play any orchestral instrument, with wind players of at least a grade 6 standard and strings players of a grade 5 standard and above. The school orchestra play at many concerts throughout the year including at the Metropolitan Cathedral on Founder’s Day.

Theory Club

This is a support class for pupils that are taking Associated Board Theory examinations. The class is designed to give extra help to pupils with grades 1 to 5 theory alongside their instrumental lessons.

Woodwind Ensemble

This group welcomes all woodwind instruments and tends to be one of the smaller ensembles. The focus is usually on popular music such as television and film music and seasonal repertoire.
