Athletics

Athletics at St Edward’s College is open to all, regardless of a pupil’s age, ability or previous experience. Pupils can participate across a range of disciplines, enjoying a high level of coaching and training tailored to help each individual reach his or her potential.

Athletics is available to pupils on two levels; it can either be undertaken as a summer recreation sport or on a more competitive basis. Many of the College's athletes are linked to Liverpool Harriers AC and sustain training throughout the off season. Training takes place during Trinity term at lunchtimes and in the evenings after school.

The College has a 400m cinder athletics track with facilities for throwing and jumping events.

In the summer, pupils of all abilities are offered the opportunity to compete in meetings right up to national level. Many represent the school in the Liverpool Schools individual and team championships and the English Schools team championship. Some performers progress to represent Merseyside at the English Schools Individual Championships. In 2008, brothers Liam and Sean Wilson represented Merseyside at these championships in 110m Hurdles and 400m respectively. The College has been a past winner of the English Schools Team Championships on two occasions and has had a number of English Schools Individual champions.
