Rugby

Rugby at St. Edward's continues to provide a focus for many boys throughout the school. The College runs ten teams - Under 12 A and B, Under 13 A and B, Under 14 A and B, Under 15, Under 16, Second XV and First XV. Training takes place after school or during lunch times and fixtures are played on Saturday mornings against others schools across the North West during Advent and Lent terms.

Teams are entered in the Lancashire Cup at all age groups, the Preston Grasshoppers U16 Floodlit Cup and the national Daily Mail Cup at Under 15 and Under 18. In addition, during the latter stages of the season, the senior squad compete in sevens tournaments across the UK, including the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, Ampleforth Sevens, Stonyhurst College Sevens and the North of England Schoolboys Sevens. The Under 12 and Under 13 also play in the King’s School, Macclesfield 15-a-side Rugby Festival.

The College also has a long tradition of touring and hosting touring teams - in recent years teams have travelled to Edinburgh, Belfast and New Zealand whilst teams have been hosted from Scotland, the United States of America and Argentina.

At the end of each season a rugby awards ceremony takes place when individual players and teams are recognised for their effort and achievement throughout the season.
