Swimming

Pupils at St Edward's College are fortunate enough to have access to a 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool, including changing rooms that were refurbished in 2008. They can enjoy swimming throughout the year. Swiming both forms an important part of the Physical Education programme and is offered as an extra-curricular activity for all pupils.

Training sessions are held each Tuesday and Thursday after school. All pupils are welcome. There is an 'open door' policy, regardless of ability, and St Edward's offers tuition to all levels. A number of committed swimmers also train with external clubs and coaches, including the Everton Swimming Club, which runs training and club sessions each evening at the College.

The swimming teams compete throughout the year, although most of the competitions are held in the Advent and Lent terms. Traditionally, the swimming teams do very well, competing regularly against local schools. For some fixtures the boys and girls compete in separate competitions, while at other times they compete together as a single team. The swimming team also nominates relay teams to compete in national relay competitions.

The College has a long tradition of producing National Age Group Standard Swimmers and former pupil, Michael Rock, competed in the Beijing Olympics in the 100m and 200m Butterfly and 4x100 Medley Relay. School swimming squads have reached the National Schools Relay Competition finals in four out of the last five years.
