Waterpolo
After a successful introduction to water polo in the Lent Term 2009, the College is now running a water polo club, every Monday 4.30pm – 5.30pm. Water polo is new to St Edward’s College and provides pupils with the opportunity to develop new skills and learn a different sport.
The College has formalised a link with Bridgefield Water Polo Club and training sessions are delivered by their specialist coaches. The training teaches the principles of swimming, handling and shooting and introduces the rules of the game and the discipline involved. It combines the benefits of swimming with technical, tactical and social aspects of a team sport, using similar principles to handball, basketball and rugby.
All year groups and abilities are welcome although water polo requires an individual to be a proficient swimmer as players are unable to touch the sides or bottom of pool for long periods.
The link with Bridgefield enables pupils to further develop their interest and ability in the sport outside of school as players are invited to join Bridgefield Water Polo Club and benefit from the world class facilities Liverpool Aquatic Centre have to offer.
