Request for Leave of Absence

This form should be completed for ALL requests for Leave of Absence during term time. Requests for family holidays can only be authorised by the Principal in “exceptional circumstances”. If you are applying for absence during September, your application must be lodged before the end of Trinity term.

The request must be sent by e-mail at least 10 days prior to the date of requested absence.

Parents/carers will receive a text message advising if the absence has been authorised.

St Edward’s College is dedicated to the education of all our pupils and we believe regular attendance through the year is essential to every child’s success and fulfilment. Before approving this request for leave of absence, your child’s attendance and punctuality record will be reviewed. It is expected that all pupils will have attendance of at least 95%.

The College will take into account the following when considering whether a request for leave of absence can be authorised:

  • The reason for wanting term time absence and the length of the absence.
  • Your child’s attendance record at St Edward’s College.
  • The likely impact on your child’s education.
  • The proximity of internal or external examinations.

Any pupil whose attendance is below 90%, or who has any unauthorised absence, will be expected to pay for the cost of any public examination entry fees incurred during the Trinity Term. This includes GCSE, AS and A2 examinations.

Fixed Penalties*

If a child is taken out of the College without permission, the absence will be marked as ‘unauthorised’ and could possibly result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued. The Fixed Penalty Cost is £60 per parent per child if paid within 21 days and £120 if paid between 22 and 28 days

* applicable to pupils in Years 7 to 11 only
