Acting success for former pupils

06 September 2011

Old Edwardian Shaun Evans (1991 – 1998) has been cast to play a young Inspector Morse, ITV has confirmed.

The actor, who recently starred alongside Tom Hardy in Sky's gritty crime drama The Take, will step into the late John Thaw's shoes to play young detective constable Endeavour Morse in one-off drama Endeavour.

Of his new role, Evans said: "Morse as a young man is a wonderful character that I'm very excited to be playing him. My hope is that we can complement what comes before, by telling a great story and telling it well."

Shaun began his acting career at St Edward’s starring as Mr Briggs in Our Day Out, the school's first Lower School Production and went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In May and June this year, another former pupil, Shaun Mason (1996 – 2003), performed alongside David Morrissey in Macbeth, the final Everyman production before the legendary theatre’s closure for redevelopment.

Shaun was cast as Donalbain, Caithness, Young Lennox and the Messenger in the production, which has been met with critical acclaim. A review of Macbeth by SEEN Magazine said ‘Well known Liverpool stage actor Shaun Mason took on various roles and, as usual portrayed each of them perfectly. As always, he is a pleasure to watch and his talents never cease to amaze.’

This is the latest in a string of roles for Shaun in theatre, television and film since leaving the College. These include Moving On, The Accused, Brookside and The Crew.

Shaun was very involved in the College drama productions during his time here, starting off as one of the Bad Guys in Bugsy Malone in a Lower School production. He played Jacob, Marley`s ghost in Scrooge and Fagin in Oliver. He then went on to play the lead role in Hamlet in an Upper School production. He studied Drama GCSE and A level Performing Arts.
