IET Faraday Engineering Challenge Day

IET Faraday Engineering Challenge Day

11 February 2010

On Tuesday 9 February, six Year 8 pupils from the Gifted and Talented cohort attended Bluecoat School for the IET Faraday Engineering Challenge Day. The pupils worked as a team to design and build a device which could be used to help people remove water from their homes after being flooded.

There were six school teams and during the day each team had to design, build and finally test their device. The final challenge was to see if their device could move one litre of water from one tray through a height of 30cm into a higher tray, in one minute.

The teams were awarded marks for their designs, their budgeting, a learning video, which they produced during the course of the challenge, and the success of their device.

Whilst, our pupils did not win, they enjoyed their day , they learnt about the different roles for Engineers and the importance of team work.
