15 December 2011

In May 2011, Old Edwardian and former member of staff at the College, Terence Duffy was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal School of Church Music for services to church music. Terence was a pupil of the College from 1949 to 1958. He was a member of the College Music Department teaching staff from 1971 to 1993 and was College Registrar from 1993 to 2004.
The citation read:
‘Terence Duffy is a church musician – an organist and teacher who has made a distinctive contribution to Roman Catholic liturgical music in Britain, notably at Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral, where he was organist from 1963-1993 and Director of Music from 2004-07. He is a skilled and much respected recitalist and teacher, who, with his brother Philip, helped to nurture the music department in the newly established Cathedral. The musical and liturgical standards of the Cathedral are of the highest order, and combine respect for tradition with a healthy promotion of new music’.
Terence said, "It came as a very nice surprise!"
