After leaving St Edward's to study Journalism at Central Lancs University, Phil beat hundreds of more experienced older candidates to get a place on the ITV Regional Trainee Scheme. Phil got a job initially as a researcher for Granada Television and then as a Trainee Reporter with Tyne Tees TV in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
He left there to work freelance in London for ITN as an Assistant News Editor. He was hired by Channel Five to produce and present their bulletins. Phil was later made Northern England Correspondent.
From there, he was recruited by Al Jazeera to help set up an English language news channel and became Assistant Programme Editor for the next two years. He left to go to BBC London TV as a news reporter and presenter and even presented their Children in Need live Outside Broadcasts.
Phil left to go and work for Five News again, briefly as a presenter, before being headhunted by Sky News to work for them as Entertainment Correspondent and Presenter.
Phil moved to the BBC where he now works as a Correspondent for the BBC1 national Breakfast programme and sometimes appears on the BBC News Channel and the BBC1 One O’clock News.
Phil now lives in North London with his fiancée and puppy.
