Stefan Taylor sails with The Ellen MacArthur Trust
21 June 2010
Stefan Taylor, Year 12, was very pleased when he obtained the opportunity to sail with the Ellen MacArther Trust for the second year running.
The Ellen MacArthur Trust was founded in 2003 to support young people who have finished treatment for Cancer and Leukaemia and to help them regain confidence and learn new skills by sailing. It gives them a sense of freedom whilst learning to gain back control of their lives. It is a brilliant opportunity for young people to make new friends and to realise that they are not in this alone.
Stefan first took part on this experience last year and was given the opportunity to sail again but in a different race. All young people involved get the opportunity to learn how to navigate a ship, help with helming, as well as cook for each other. Of course, they then had to wash up afterwards!
The Ellen MacArthur Trust spend two weeks each year running various boat races including Dinghy Week, Cruising Week and The JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race in which Stefan took part this year. All races are based in Southampton however the boats race around Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Congratulations to Stefan whose boat, Scarlet Oyster, came in third!
