There’s no place like St Edward’s!

There’s no place like St Edward’s!

19 January 2010

From Munchkin to Jitterbug, Wicked Witch to Good Witch, St Edward’s College had it all this Christmas when the Lower School Production graced the stage to wow pupils and public alike. Over three nights, audiences were entertained to the standard of any professional production at only £3 per person (all proceeds of which went to the Christian Brothers’ work in Africa).

It was the first time the Lower School Production had used film and the special effects and it really did help to break down any barriers between school show and professional musical. The talents of some of the school’s best musicians and music teachers were displayed in perfect style, making the audience want to get up out of their seats and dance along too!

The show was a pleasure to the eye, with costumes containing all the colours of the rainbow. As with any cast, the talents of particular stars shone. The comic timing of the cowardly Lion (Jack Rowan), the loving yet Heartless Tinman (Elliot Falconer) and the thoughtful Scarecrow without a brain (Shaemus Hearety) made for the perfect three to accompany the truly magnificent Dorothy (Celeste Jones) all the way down the yellow brick road!

Arguably, one of the best Lower School Productions to date goes to the true good teacher of the West, Miss Jenkins. Next year’s production has some work to do to reach over the rainbow and match this year’s ruby red success.
