Rugby at St Edward's continues to provide a focus for many boys throughout the school. The College runsĀ a one team per year group - U12A, U13A, U14A, U15, U16, Second XV and First XV. Training takes place before and after school, with fixtures played on Saturday mornings against others schools across the North West during Advent and Lent terms.

Teams are entered in the Lancashire Cup at all age groups, the national NatWest Schools Cup at Under 15 and Under 18. In addition, during the latter stages of the season, the senior squad compete in Sevens tournaments across the UK, including the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, Ampleforth Sevens, Stonyhurst College Sevens and the North of England Schoolboys Sevens.

Over the last few years the school has done exceptionally well in the Lancashire cup with the U14 winning the plate in 2012 and the U16 winning the plate in 2012 and 2013 with several year groups reaching the cup quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The College also has a long tradition of touring and hosting touring teams - in recent years teams have travelled to Scotland, Ireland, Germany and New Zealand whilst teams have been hosted from Scotland, the United States of America, Argentina and Isle of Man.

At the end of each season a rugby awards ceremony takes place when individual players and teams are recognised for their effort and achievement throughout the season.
