Principal's Welcome

Welcome to St Edward’s College.

It is a privilege to introduce myself as the Principal of this distinguished Catholic school for pupils aged 11–18. At St Edward’s, we believe that education is more than preparation for the next stage of life - it is the foundation upon which we build our future. These formative years shape not only minds, but hearts and character.

We are proud to be part of the Edmund Rice family of schools, founded by the Christian Brothers and inspired by the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. Rooted in this tradition, our school is committed to living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all we do. Our pupils regularly lead choral worship as part of our unique role as the choir school for Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Twenty percent of our intake is selected for musical aptitude, while the remaining places are allocated in line with our admissions policy - welcoming young people of all abilities who seek a rigorous academic education within an explicitly Catholic environment.

Our mission, taken from 1 Corinthians 16:14, is at the heart of our school:

“Let all that you do be done in love.”

This mission is not a slogan, but a call to live as Jesus lived - with courage, compassion and love. At St Edward’s, we are committed to nurturing pupils who not only achieve academic excellence but who strive to be a force for good in the world - people of integrity, service and leadership rooted in Christ’s example.

To “do all in love” means to care deeply, act justly and lead with kindness. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, on stage or on expedition, our pupils and staff are encouraged to support one another and use their talents for the benefit of the whole community. We believe that leadership begins with service, and that success is measured not only by achievement but by the character shown in its pursuit.

The five keys to being an Edwardian reflect the values we aim to live out each day:

  • Be Proud – Carry yourself with confidence and dignity: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
  • Join In – Be part of something bigger than yourself: “You are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of it”. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27)
  • Grow in Faith – Deepen your relationship with God: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
  • Treat People Well – Live the Golden Rule: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you” (Matthew 7:12).
  • Work Hard – Offer your best in all you do: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).

St Edward’s College is a place where pupils are known, valued, challenged and loved. With strong academic outcomes and excellence in music and sport, we are proud to be counted among the leading Catholic schools in the country.

Whether you are a current or prospective parent, a pupil, a potential member of staff or simply a visitor, I warmly invite you to explore our website. You will find a community committed to faith, learning and service - a family of pupils and staff who strive daily to live out our mission: to do all things in love.

God bless,

Mr Lee Anthony Fabia, BA (Hons), PGCE, MA, NPQH
