Operation Encompass

Prevent

Prevent is part of the UK counter-terrorism strategy. The aim of this is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Prevent addresses all forms of terrorism, but continues to prioritise according to the threat the pose to our national security.

Prevent also means intervening to stop people from extremist groups or from extremism into terrorist-related activity. The Prevent strategy specifically:
  • responds to the ideological challenge of terrorism and the threat we face from those who promote it
  • prevents people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure that they are given appropriate advice and support
  • works with sectors and institutions where there are risks if radicalisation which need to be addressed

Operation Encompass

St Edward's College is part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Violence and Abuse and which is in place in every police force in England and Wales.
Children were recognised as victims of domestic abuse in their own right in the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act. Operation Encompass means that the police will share information with the College about all Domestic Abuse incidents the Police have attended which involve any of our pupils. We are aware that we must do nothing that puts the child/ren or the non-abusing adult at risk.
